Fame followed soon enough for Schonbek as the Queen’s agent in London ordered Schonbek crystal chandeliers for the Buckingham Palace. Later in the century, Schonbek chandelier also founds its way into America’s most revered institution – The White House.
Schonbek chandelier was not famous because it was made from crystal but because of the intricate craftsmanship that went in making such beautiful designs. In 1870, a new era had started, history was being written and Adolf Schonbek created a fantasy that has lasted a century and is still considered one of the best ever in the crystal chandelier industry.
In spite of having lost his factories to the World Wars and other trade wars, Arnold Schonbek, the grandson of Adolf re-established the company in Montreal and today the headquarters are based in the United States.
Chandeliers from Schonbek have been so successful that many people have tried to imitate the designs. In 2007, Swarovski, a leader in the production of finely cut crystal acquired Schonbek. It is like two Titans working together, bringing a new mix of creativity, potential, and craftsmanship and to the world of crystal chandelier fashion.
