I wanted to make a good start … A year later and 30 visits to places of reception later I found nothing that I fell in love … People tell me that I'm being too picky … My budget per person is about 100 -130 pp but this must include taxes and tips that I would love a place with high ceilings, chandeliers, simple, something stylish modern … I prefer an indoor / outdoor cocktail hour free … However, I am willing to compromise on some but not all of these things … I fell in love with the Palace Somerset Park, but was quoted at 275 pp in June on a Saturday … I am willing to consider a Sunday as a lat resort .. . When choosing a chandelier for your room: Neither must dominate his table nor look too small. Light fittings are in abundance wherever you look – sifting through the lamps and lighting ranges can be daunting for the uninitiated shopper. In this article we give you pointers on what to look for and how to select the perfect lighting fixture for your home.
Whatever the style of your home and home decor, whatever color your rooms are and no matter how they are furnished, lighting should be an integral part of the design.
In the same way that textures and colors of fabric are selected because they complement each other (for soft furnishings, for example), successful lighting is dependent on task, feature and general lighting all working in harmony. By carefully selecting and varying the levels and type of task, feature and general lighting components, you can create the perfect light setting for every activity in your home as well as creating dramatic effects where needed.
In order to fully appreciate the different types of lighting fixtures available these days, this article will describe the features and benefits of some of these. After all, being properly informed will enable you to have the confidence to light up your home with style and ease.
Table lamps – Easily portable and can be highly effective lighting fixtures which can be positioned anywhere in a room. They can be located near sofas and chairs and hence function as task lights to help with reading. Table lamps positioned around the edges of a room can eliminate dark corners.
Pendant lights – These are hanging lamps which are suspended from the ceiling by a chain or rod. The light they produce can be dark and somewhat limiting although pendants themselves are often highly decorative and come in many different designs. It is usually better to supplement the light from pendants with other types of indoor lighting fixtures such as wall lights as well as floor and table lamps.
Chandeliers – Magnificent to look at and highly decorative chandeliers, most commonly found in large open hallway entrances and in dining rooms, add a touch of opulence and splendor by their mere presence. Usually, if used on their own as a light source, the light can be flat and boring. Although, crystal chandeliers can create a lot of unwelcome glare. This can be resolved by installing a dimmer to reduce the output of the lamps and light and to use other forms of lighting, such as low-voltage downlights dotted around the chandelier, to shine through the chandelier.
Downlights – Another way of lighting up a room and in fact low voltage downlights produce a very crisp white light which can literally transform dark and dingy places. Usually, downlights are installed in fixtures in the ceiling or underneath cupboards. They are very versatile as they can be used for bringing light into the central area of a room as well as be directed onto objects, pictures or ornaments, to provide both general and feature lighting.
Picture lights – Hanging pictures in your home is one way of adding to your home decor and what better way of providing even more focus to these pictures than accentuating them with lights? Free-standing spotlights, directional downlights and frame-mounted lights can all be used. It merely depends on how your picture is framed and which of these lighting fixtures will bring out the best in it. Free-standing spotlights are great if your picture is covered by glass as you want to avoid glass reflection. Simply use the spotlight as an uplight which cleverly reflects the glass reflection towards the ceiling. Another method is to use a recessed, low-voltage directional downlight which, when used correctly, can be a very effective picture light that prevents glare.
Wall washing – This is a brilliant, subtle way of softly illuminating plain walls. It can also be used to highlight ornamental objects to great effect. The lighting fixture is a small floodlight that can be ceiling-mounted, or placed at the top or bottom of a wall and effectively, will "wash" the wall with a splash of light.
Although only a few types of indoor light fixtures have been discussed in this article, hopefully it has given you some ideas to think about with respect to the lighting in your home. From chandeliers, to pendant lights and downlights, you can see all the different effects that can be achieved by using different light fittings.

There are numerous types of Candle Holders like Wrought Iron, Tea light, Votive, Hanging, Pillar and Glass and several others.
Candle holders are an ideal accessory for the home dcor. Candelabras and Chandelier are the classical decorative candle holders . The former have several branches to accommodate many candles and seem very aesthetic as a centerpiece on a dining room table. The latter hangs from the ceiling and have attractive pendants suspended from them. These are quite suited for high ceilings.
Wrought Iron Candle holders
Wrought Iron and Grapes Candle holders have curvaceous wrought iron and plump grapes in the form of a shapely candelabra. There are three pillars on 3 inch diameter plates. The dimensions are 16 inches X 4 3/8 inches X 11 inches. The Tribal Dancer Candle holder is created from metal and rattan. The dimensions are 8 inches X 4 inches X 1 inches. Wrought Iron Scroll Candle holder has a tall, slender design and swirl theme. It is made from Hand-hammered wrought iron. The largest size is 5 3/8 inches X 5 3/8 inches X 19 inches. Pillar Candle holders
Wood Pillar Candle Holder, Espresso has a smooth wood finish and can hold a 3 inch diameter pillar candle. This candle holder has to be placed on a flat heat-resistant surface. 10, 12 and 14 inches are the various heights in which this holder can be obtained. Wood pillar candle holder – large is made of wood and has a beautiful dark brown finish. Any assembly is not required.
Glass Candle holders
4 inch Glass Candle holder has a 4 inch interior diameter and a 5 inch gross diameter. The total weight is 0.50 lbs and height is inch. A certain Glass candle holder from China has dimensions 21.5 cm X 21.5 cm X 16 cm. There is a three flat metal stand and a cap-shaped crackled glass.

Choosing the right furniture for your home is an exhaustive decision. Entire Oprah shows are devoted to the type of furniture one should put in their homes. Antiques
My mother, who was searching for the perfect bathroom vanity wanted something unique. Instead of going to a local furniture store, she went antique shopping to find the right bathroom vanity. Everything she looked for was very old, unique for sure and very expensive. Being unique is one thing, but when a bathroom vanity is so old it’s falling apart, is another. Instead of buying an expensive, broken bathroom vanity, she bought a gold, mini chandelier and a rare accent lamp.
Making it Yours
If you are on a budget when searching for furniture, try some of the larger economic department stores. Some of these over-seas made products can all look very much alike and identified as cheap or generic. The best solution is to personalize it. For my father’s desk, he placed the accent lamp my mom had found on his inexpensive desk, making it more valuable. As for my mom’s inexpensive bathroom vanity, she painted it a deep red and created her own beaded cushion for the chair. It went from generic to glam!
Setting the Tone
Once my parents bought a couple pieces, they thought about rearranging the rest of the furniture. The blue bedroom needed painting, now that the red bathroom vanity was a dramatic new piece. The office needed a rug to go with the accent lamp and the kitchen, with its mini chandelier, needed a fancier look and less country. After making a few little changes, it was amazing to see what a few pieces of furniture could do for one house.
What to Look For
Think about the big picture when shopping for your home. If most of your items are white wood- maybe the cherry wood rocker will throw off the color scheme. If your living room has a nautical theme, the racecar poster will most likely clash. When in doubt, consult the furniture store salesperson. Whenever one hears the words black crystal chandelier, one tends to automatically think of the famous black crystal chandelier that King Louis XIV of France had installed in The Louvre right before he moved out to Versailles. His black crystal chandelier was incredible – over 45 feet tall from top to bottom, and had more than 25 million black crystals – each illuminated by a triumvirate of candles. This black crystal chandelier is truly a marvelous fire hazard to behold, and has been duplicated, using electric lights, by every chandelier company around.
We here at Chandeliers R Us, have decided to go a different route, and have fashioned our black crystal chandelier with the intent of replicating the exact look and feel of the crystal from Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal. Finally, we come to the chandelier Kichler. This exceptional chandelier was devised by none other than Harry Kichler, the world famous chandelier artisan, himself. Harry Kichler made the chandelier Kichler with the idea of having a chandelier that is constantly changing from day to day, providing you with a chandelier that is always unique, yet always beautiful.
In order to accomplish this lofty goal he first gained a PhD in genetic manipulation, and then used this knowledge to create the world’s first truly living chandelier: the chandelier Kichler. It never changes mass, but constantly shifts the mass into different formations, sometimes changing its density to facilitate an increase or decrease of volume. One must occasionally water it and feed it specially formulated chandelier Kichler food, but this is a small price to pay for excellence in illumination.

Ask any female what they first think of when you say the word "chandelier" and they’ll tell you about that romantic ballroom scene from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Ask any male that same question and most likely you’ll get a blank stare. I call this so-called phenomenon the "Huh? Response."
Educating the male in your life that there’s more to lighting than desk lamps won’t be as hard as asking two of them to screw in a light bulb. In fact, it’s so simple, a caveman can do it (cue Geico voiceover)! Let’s start easy, WHAT is a chandelier? According to dictionary.reference.com, a chandelier is "a decorative, sometimes ornate, light fixture suspended from a ceiling, usually having branched supports for a number of lights."
WHERE exactly, should one hang a chandelier? Well my dear, one of the best places to hang your chandelier is in the foyer right when your guests step into your home. A magnificent display of light will greet your visitors, family members, solicitors, what have you. Other fabulous places to hang your chandelier include the dining room or living room. The addition of something as grandiose as a chandelier will automatically transform any normal living or dining setting into one fit for a king.
But don’t think that any chandelier will do! Take into consideration the style that you’re going for. Let’s say you are the proud owner of a 16th century style ceiling light that looks simply…16th century. Three tiers of Gothic style candelabra lamps with chain detail complete with iron scroll-work and arrow-styled arms doesn’t really say "Welcome to my Avant-garde home," but it may suggest that you’ll all be dining in the dungeon. Unless you DO have a dungeon (and the aforementioned chandelier I described would look TERRIFIC in it), I suggest taking someone of sound mind with you in choosing the perfect chandelier. After all, you’ll need the spectacular looking lighting to distract your visitors long enough to come up with a good excuse as to why your place is a mess.
